Welcome

Course Description:

This course will explore key issues related to teaching and learning in online environments with a particular emphasis on writing and communication pedagogy. Our readings and discussions will examine digital classroom practices and the theories that inform them. Course assignments will engage scholarship from relevant disciplines (including computers and composition, rhetoric, technical/professional communication, and educational technology), investigate varying pedagogical approaches, and evaluate current technological possibilities. Students will also have an opportunity to create or supplement curricular materials for current or future online teaching.

Course Meeting Times and Place:

This is a hybrid class that will meet face-to-face and online at various points during the semester. During face-to-face sessions (f2f) (noted on course schedule) this course will meet in the Design Center (located in the northside basement of Milton Hall) on Mondays and Wednesdays 4:00-5:15. Online sessions will be held both synchronously and asynchronously (see schedule) through Canvas unless other technologies are assigned.

Due dates for hybrid classes can get a little confusing, so the standard rule will be that assignments are due in class if we are meeting f2f and by Sunday at midnight if the class is being held asynchronously. If a class session is being conducted synchronously, the activity/assignment will take place online during our regular class time. There are three exceptions to Sunday night due dates to allow time for peer review: Monday, February 18th, Wednesday, March 20th, and Wednesday, April 17th.
