Small Individual or Collaborative Project

The purpose of this assignment is to design a small web site for yourself or for a client. You might choose an online portfolio, a site for a course you plan to teach, a project for your internship, or even a client of your own choosing. Not only will this provide you with extra practice in creating design and web features, it will also give you a better opportunity to experience each of the roles and stages of web production.

For this project you can choose to work either alone or with a partner ( no groups bigger than two). If you decide to work with a partner, be sure to select a subject and purpose that interests both of you.

I expect that you will continue to develop this project throughout the term as you learn new design and development practices. Although the content for this project is largely up to you, I will ask you to write up a brief description of your project and your rationale for choosing it so I can approve it. Your final page should contain the following technical elements:

  • at least five working links to internal pages within your own site
  • link buttons with rollovers that have at least an up and over state
  • multiple text sizes
  • a coordinated and consistent design and color scheme
  • at least three images that have been altered and/or optimized using photoshop or imageready

In addition to the final version of your project's web site, you will also turn in the following:

  • a one to two paragraph description of the topic you propose for the project and a brief rationale for why you chose it
  • a web mock-up of your project's home page
  • a working draft version of your site for feedback
  • a final draft of the site on CD (when your page is finished, put it in your public_html folder and email the address to me jasheppa@nmsu.edu)

This project is worth 15% of your final grade
