Purpose
The purpose of this project is to familiarize you with Fireworks, an image creation and editing program intended mostly for Web-based design work. In addition, you can use Fireworks to animate Web graphics, add interactivity for your users, and optimize both bitmap and vector images for better display and download on the Web.

Platform
This project can be done on both the Mac and PC sides.

Assignment
To give you a basic understanding of some of the most useful capabilities of Fireworks, this assignment asks you to work through all six of the Lessons included with the program. You will learn how to create quick animations, Slices, Rollovers, Pop-Up menus, and to speed up repetitive tasks. With Fireworks open, you can access these by going to Help>Lessons. All the needed image files for the lessons can be found in Groups>classes>HU2644_Spring 2002>References>lessons_fireworks or under Macintosh HD>Applications>Macromedia Fireworks>Lessons on the Mac.

Turning in Work
After completing the lessons, you should have produced the following work:

• An animated gif with accompanying HTML file (produced by saving HTML and Images)
• Optimized versions of the star and kayak images
• A working rollover for the rock climbing image
• A working pop-up menu with at least two links

Points

• Turned in on time- 10 points
• animated gif- 15 points
• optimized images- 10 points
• rollover- 15 points
• pop-up menu- 15 points

Bonus Points
To earn the bonus points for this assignment, you can do ONE of the following:

• Complete the Tutorial lessons found under Help>Using Fireworks>Tutorial. This tutorial will take you through some more advanced features of the program and website construction

• Using the skills you gained in the lessons above, create your own two page Website to showcase an interest of yours. It should include your own optimized gif and jpeg images, an additional animated gif created in Fireworks, rollover links for navigating between the two pages, and a popup menu for additional links to some of your favorite Web sites. Feel free to add in additional elements or pages to help you earn instructor discretion points.
